Recognizing that the foundation of our language, religion, and cultural identity lies in our script, this initiative was launched to revive and promote the Sambhota script, an ancient writing system historically used across the Himalayan region.
In 2016, we began a community-based campaign in my village with the goal of preserving this valuable heritage. By appointing skilled instructors and collaborating with local schools, we created meaningful opportunities for students to learn and engage with the script.
The program ran successfully for five years. Although it was later disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, efforts are ongoing to revive and sustain this important initiative.
Project Objectives
- Preserve and promote the Sambhota script and language
- Strengthen cultural identity and awareness among youth
- Encourage community-based and intergenerational learning
- Enable access to traditional religious and cultural texts
Implementation
The program was implemented over five years in collaboration with three local schools:
- Saraswati Primary School
- Shree Himwarti Secondary School
- Shree Hulak Primary School
Location:
Marbu-7 and Chawnkhu-6, Gaurishankar Rural Municipality, Dolakha, Nepal
Qualified instructors were appointed to teach students regularly, ensuring consistent learning and engagement.
