Lopen Dr. Karma Phuntsho is Bhutan’s leading intellectual and has many decades experience of teaching Buddhism and Bhutan Studies. His work reeceives extensive media coverage internationally. He completed his full monastic training before going to Oxford to read Sanskrit and Classical Indian religions and pursue a DPhil. in Oriental Studies. He has worked as a researcher at Cambridge University, CNRS (Paris) and the University of Virginia. He is the first Bhutanese to do a PhD at Oxford and become a fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge. He currently works as writer for Tsadra Foundation and frequently speaks on Bhutan’s history, religion, culture and development. Dr. Karma Phuntsho has authored six books including “The History of Bhutan”, which received Choice Outstanding Academic Title, edited eight books, written over two hundred fifty articles and essays and led over a dozen research projects including extensive documentation of Bhutan’s cultural traditions.
His is also the founder of the Loden Foundation – a civil society organization in Bhutan and sits on several boards. He has also recently established Bodhitse, a centre for study and contemplation in Thimphu. In 2024, he became the first Bhutanese recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for transformational leadership, often called the Nobel prize of Asia.

A series of talks exploring how Buddhist wisdom can be applied to develop personal growth, life skills, and social well-being. The program focuses on applying the teachings of the Buddha to modern life and society.
